"Meraviglioso"; "Wonderful", a beautiful Italian song - a hymn to life composed by the great singer/composer Domenico Modugno - is the title of my new CD.
On this CD you will also find two other tunes from the Italian/Neapolitan musical tradition: "Passione", a touching love song and "Canto Delle Lavandaie Del Vomero", a song from the thirteenth century about washerwomen who, for a living, washed the linen for the rich people which at the time lived in one of the best areas of Naples, called the "Vomero".
All the original compositions - "Spaccanapoli", "Latin Pendulum", and "Silver Morning" - have a very "Mediterranean" feeling in common. In contrast, "The Run" has a lot influence of Arabian music.
Thelonious Monk was and still is one of my favourite composers. By including four of his compositions into my album I pay a little tribute to this genious of jazz history.

The original compositions are executed with fantastic technical mastery; no note is unnecessary and a wide range of "touch" emerges.
Acutally too many pianists, even among the youngest, seen to depend on Bill Evans lyrics and dreaming touch; Bill has restored to jazz the true sound of piano with all its variety and, although we pianists like to expolre the more lyric aspect of the sound, it doesnt mean we have to forget all the possibilities that our instrument can offer.
Furthermore I got deeply impressed and moved by the three Italian/Neapolitan compositions, revisited and arranged by this trio: the world is already full of pieces created from many different peoples heart, so that its useless to strive after composing something new only to follow some stream, and consequent useless professional stress..
In the Thelonious Monks four tunes the Italian pianist explores a composer who has been - and hes very much again now, particularly lately - a great source of inspiration for me too; these are really sincere and original compositions, that have eternal value and strongly clash with the proliferation of senseless pieces that unfortunately may be found in the present-day jazz, which I often criticise.
An essential and exceptional creative contribution is supplied from the rhythmic section, with Hämi and Elmar, who stimulate, integrate and support the pianists work with a great concentration and wealth of ideas.
I congratulate the three musicians on this CD that in every moment charms you with its intensity. Bravo!

„Meraviglioso“, “Wunderbar”, ein wunderschönes italienisches Lied – eine Hymne an das Leben vom weltberühmter Liedermacher Domenico Modugno komponiert – nennt sich meine neue CD.
In dieser CD werden sie auch zwei andere Lieder aus der italienischen/parthenopeischen Musiktradition entdecken: „Passione“ („Leidenschaft“) ein rührendes Liebeslied und „Canto delle lavandaie del Vomero“ („Gesang der Wäscherinnen von Vomero“), ein Lied aus dem vierzehnten Jahrhundert über solche Wäscherinnen, die um zu Leben die Wäsche für die reiche Leuten pflegten, welche in der schönsten Gegend von Neapel, Vomero benannt, ansässig waren.
Alle original Kompositionen – „Spaccanapoli“, „Latin Pendulum“ und „Silver Morning“ – sind mit einem echten mediterranen Charakter imprägniert. Im Gegensatz ist „The Run“ mit einem starken arabischen Musikeinfluss gekennzeichnet.
Thelonious Monk bleibt einen meiner bevorzugten Komponisten. Mit der Ausführung in meinem Album von vier seiner Kompositionen, will ich damit meinen winzigen Beitrag zu diesem Genie der Jazzgeschichte bezeugen.

„Meraviglioso“, una bellissima canzone italiana – un inno alla vita composto dal famoso cantautore Domenico Modugno – è il titolo del mio nuovo CD.
In questo mio nuovo album scoprirete anche altre due canzoni della tradizione musicale italiana/partenopea: “Passione”, una canzone d’amore commovente e “Canto delle lavandaie del Vomero”, canzone scritta nel trecento e che si riferiva alle lavandaie che per vivere lavavano i panni della gente ricca residente nell’area più bella di Napoli, chiamata “Vomero”.
Tutte le composizioni originali – “Spaccanapoli”, “Latin Pendulum” e “Silver Morning” – sono caratterizzate da una forte influenza di musica mediterranea. Al contrario “The Run” si oppone con una forte influenza di musica araba.
Thelonious Monk rimane uno dei miei compositori preferiti. L’aver rappresentato nel mio nuovo album 4 delle sue composizioni vuole essere il mio piccolo tributo personale a quel genio della storia del Jazz.
E adesso basta con le parole … “enjoy the music!”
