The word, Underscore, has been adopted in cyberspace in a variety of languages, indicating the presence of a space, visually punctuating a cesura, while at the same time reminding us what in fact lies under a score of music.
The use of computers, machines, codes and symbols in the music of today has inspired us to suffuse the harmonic and melodious traditions of jazz with the present-day ambiance and rhythms of currents such as jungle, trip-hop or reggae.
It is no coincidence that we have invited Enrico Rava to participate in this recording. He himself embodies that bridge between tradition and modernism characteristic of all great jazz musicians, while recalling the Italian lyricism that remind me of my own origins...
