(Arnaud Robert, Le Temps) Mit der CD "Pirate", vierte CD des welschen Trios, dehnt Format à 3 seine musikalische Welt aus, und zwar mit der Integration von anderen Musikinstrumenten als die klassische Strukturformation Klavier, Bass und Schlagzeug, wie das Fender Rhodes Piano, die elektrische Bassgitarre, das digitale Schlagzeug und das analogische Synthesizer. Die Mehrzahl der neuen Kompositionen wurde spontan während der Tonaufnahmen arrangiert und alle Musikinstrumenten wurden direkt ohne weitere Montage oder zusätzliche Aufnahmen eingespielt. **************************************************** Ciò che più impressiona nella loro musica è la netta sensazione che niente viene simulato. Nell’ambito di un quadro dai contorni lirici essi moltiplicano le false pieghe e i contrasti. Il trio (…) si lascia trasportare dal disordine del momento. In questo contesto il trio opera “a cuore aperto”. Dotati di un notevole senso compositivo e di un gusto per gli squilibri fecondi, Format à 3 crea così il suo spirito libero. Questa formazione dovrebbe partire in tournee perenne e trasmettere a tutti la sua straordinaria ambasciata. (Arnaud Robert, Le Temps) Con il CD „Pirate“, quarta produzione del trio svizzero francese, Format à 3 allarga il suo universo sonoro integrando alla formazione classica del jazz, piano basso e batteria, altri strumenti come il piano Fender Rhodes, il basso elettrico, l’expander digitale dei ritmi ed inoltre il sintetizzatore analogico. La maggior parte delle nuove composizioni sono state arrangiate spontaneamente durante le registrazioni e tutti gli strumenti sono stati suonati in diretta senza ricorrere al montaggio o ad ulteriori registrazioni successive.
