eorg Hofmann was born 1961 in Zürich/Switzerland. He studied with Pierre Favre. His main activities today are the American/Swiss trio Carr-Nord-Hofmann, Georg Hofmann's Extensions, Shades of Time, freelance work, composing and teaching. Besides his playing in the jazz and improvised music field, Georg Hofmann has composed for theater productions and fashion shows as well as working for film and dance. He is also an experienced interprete of new classical music. His influences range from Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis and John Coltrane to African, Latin and Asian music. His freelance work includes concerts with Charles Gayle, Steve Gorn, Robert Dick, Jiri Stivin, Pierre Favre, Christoph Baumann, Hans Koch, Vinz Vonlanthen, Lucas Niggli, Nat Su, Rätus Flisch, Gene Coleman, Herbie Kopf among others. He is teaching drums, percussion and general rhythm at different institutions in Zürich and at Columbia University, New York. His tours include concerts in Switzerland, Germany, France, Holland, USA and Mexico
