erner Tian Fischer grew up at the foot of the Swiss Alps a little while before video killed the radio star. Listening to the Beatles sing & Dylan cough made him pick up the guitar & form his first band at the tender age of eleven. Influenced by the rich rythmic & harmonic approaches of Carlos Santana, John McLaughlin & Frank Zappa his playing soon evolved into more fusion-type styles. It was not until long that he was ready for the music of "real" jazz musicians.

During the 1990s he fronted the widely acclaimed Pop-group Starfish on their countless live performances throughout Switzerland & many parts of Northern Europe. Their playing hits on Swiss national radio included classics like "Rain Comes Falling Down" and "Three Young Ladies". The humorous "Miini Fründin" sold gold. At one time or other he could be seen performing Bluegrass with The Foggy Cotton Toys (with violinist Matthias Lincke), Klezmer with Sonomundo, or Folk- & Pop-classics together with multi-instrumentalist/producer Tom Etter (of "Züri West"-fame).

After three years of deepening his musical insights at the Boston-based Berklee College of Music he returned to Switzerland in 2003 with a bag full of original compositions, some of which he recorded for his album "Eastbound" (available on iTunes).
In 2004 he led his FISCHER-WICKIHALDER JAZZ COALITION on a tour to the People's Republic of China. In 2007 he initiated the SAM TRÜMPY MEMORIAL JAZZ COALITION, a transatlantic octet celebrating the music of the late tenorist. In August 2008 he did a well-received club tour at Beijing's fancy LAN-Club & the House of Switzerland together with singer/pianist Mya N.

His current working bands are the duos AUDREY & ART and ALL STANDARD GUITARS, as well as THE BIATTELS, an off-spin of the legendary TUESDAY LUNCH MUSIC CLUB.

Werner currently teaches guitar & ensemble at the music schools of the city of Luzern and in Wädenswil-Richterswil. He has also published several articles on the History of Jazz in Switzerland.

Werner Tian Fischer wuchs in einer Zeit auf, in der das Radio der Schlüssel zur weiten Welt der Töne war: Dylan, die Beatles und die eindringlichen Töne eines Santanas, McLaughlins oder eines Zappas liessen ihn zur Gitarre greifen. Der ursprüngliche Autodidakt bildete sich über die Jahre am Hot Club de Jazz in Lissabon, an der Swiss Jazz School in Bern und am Berklee College of Music in Boston weiter. 2002 erhielt er das Solisten-Werkjahr der Luzerner Dienemann-Stiftung.

Mit Tom Etter ("Züri West") gründete er in den 1990er Jahren die international erfolgreiche Folk-Pop-Gruppe Starfish. Deren viel beachtete Tonträger ermöglichten der Band während Jahren ein Tournee-Leben quer durch die Schweiz und weite Teile Nordeuropas. Weitere wichtige Stationen in seiner Laufbahn waren die Salsa-Grossformation Guatuzo, Sam Trümpys Jazz Coalition sowie Ayoko, ein Etikett für wechselnde Formationen um den Saxofonisten Heinrich Baumgartner.

Sein Gitarrenspiel hat über ein Dutzend Tonträger geprägt - aktuell ist das Album "All Standard Guitar: Just Guitars?". Seine Fischer-Wickihalder Jazz Coalition begab sich im Sommer 2004 auf ausgedehnte China-Tournee. 2007 organisierte er die Schweizer Tournee der Sam Trümpy Memorial Jazz Coalition, einem transatlantischen Oktett, das sich der Musik des herausragenden Tenoristen verschrieben hat. Im August 2008 ging er zusammen mit der Sängerin/Pianistin Mya N als Audrey & Art auf Clubtour nach Beijing (LAN Club, House of Switzerland).

Seine aktuellen Formationen umfassen die Duos Audrey & Art und All Standard Guitars sowie die Coverformation The Biattels, ein spin-off des legendären Tuesday Lunch Music Clubs.

Als Live- und Studiomusiker arbeitete er in den letzten Jahren zusammen mit bekannten Vertretern der CH-Jazzszene - den Sängerinnen Janet Dawkins, Mya N, Barbara Balzan, Marianne Racine und Rahel Hadorn, den Saxofonisten Bruno Spoerri, Jürg Wickihalder, Thomi Geiger, Reto Suhner, Jonas Knecht, Rodrigo Botter Maio und Christoph Grab, den Schlagzeugern Gabriel Schiltknecht, Lukas Landis, Dominik Burger und Tony Renold - oder mit internationalen Grössen wie Sophie Dunér, Roman Dylag, Alain 'Dodzi' Apaloo, Alexandre Côté und Félix Stüssi.

Werner unterrichtet an den Musikschulen Luzern und Wädenswil-Richterswil. Der gelernte Historiker betätigt sich auch publizistisch, in den letzten Jahren vor allem mit Recherchen zur Schweizer Jazzgeschichte.
